And Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez wasted no time in getting up and out as the couple were seen happily strolling through the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood on Sunday.
But it seems that a Christmas without her little girl has started to take it's toll on Halle and her beau, both 46, as when they stepped out on Thursday, they looked thoroughly miserable.
Miserable: Halle Berry and fiance Olivier Martinez looked downcast as they strolled together in Paris on Thursday
No doubt the idea of a romantic trip to Paris with your beau must've seemed just the ticket to take her mind of it but Halle's face suggests this didn't work.
Halle and Olivier have had a difficult few months that would any relationship to the test.
Paris native Olivier had been hoping to return to his home country permanently with his American fiance, both of whom would like to trade in the Hollywood lifestyle for more low profile one.
The Frenchmen told Interview magazine he has no desire to be a movie star: 'My goal is just… to get some interesting parts and make enough money to live free.'
The ghost of a smile: Halle raised a grin at one point, but it never made it to their eyes
Difficult time: It's hard for a parent to be away from a young child, especially at Christmas
Halle has been embroiled in a bitter custody battle with her ex, Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, and recently lost a legal challenge to move to France permanently with her daughter.
The actress was ostentatiously carrying a child's pink pig backpack as she arrived in France, suggesting that she wanted to keep her daughter as close to her as possibly during this enforced absence,
As the pair walked through the arrivals terminal at the Charles De Gaulle airport Olivier pumped the air victoriously perhaps indicating that he was happy to finally be back on home turf after a difficult few months.
Eyes down: While Olivier seems pleased to be back on home turf, Halle's mind appears to be elsewhere
The incident occurred during a custody hand over at her Hollywood Hills home in which Aubry alleged Martinez said: 'You’re going to Paris or I’m going to kill you....You’re going to Paris, you’re going to get your 20 grand a month in child support.'
Aubry was found by police to be the aggressor in the incident but charges against him were dropped last week.
Last week Halle made sure to spend some quality with her little girl before leaving for the holidays treating Nahla to an outing to see Disney On Ice.
